Mining Conflict
May 18, 2007

Trek 2: Ecuador's Chocó

Since 2006, the community of Junín is again involved in a struggle with a foreign mining company which is trying to build an open-pit copper mine nearby. The people of Junín can use all the help they can get in support of their ecotourism projects and to preserve this lovely area. Until the conflict is resolved however, visiting the area independently is not recommended. Enquire in advance with Sra. Rosario Piedra, phone (09)962-7851, and see www.decoin.org
